Taxation & superannuation obligations

If your business has employees or contractors then you’ll need to know how to meet your tax and superannuation obligations

Determine the status of your workers, as you have different obligations to employees and contract workers.

You’re required to register and then withhold tax from payments you make to your employees and pay it to the Tax Office - this is called Pay As You Go (PAYG) withholding.

You must make superannuation payments for your eligible employees.

If your business provides fringe benefits to employees then you need to pay Fringe Benefits Tax to the Tax Office.

If your total Australian wages exceed the exemption threshold that applies in your state or territory then you must pay Pay-roll Tax.
